Subway Give Away!

As the end of the year is always a hectic time for families, this giveaway couldn't have come at a better time! Subway wants to give mom a few free meals!

Subway is a great choice for busy moms and what time of year is any busier!?
With the new $5 footlong you can feel good about feeding your family "fast food." Not only are many of Subway's subs healthy for you, they are also easy on your wallet! Just think of it this way... you can purchase one $5 footlong sub sandwich and feed two kids! That definitely beats out some of the other fast food options - and this is much better for you than a greasy burger with french fries.

So, while your out shopping this holiday season, swing by Subway and pick up a footlong to share with the kidlets. Once your home you can pair it up with some pretzels and fruit from your own pantry or fridge! And, you won't have to feel so bad about feeding the kids "fast food" instead of a home-cooked meal when you are just too tired!

Now for the give away...
If you want to win a few free fast meals from Subway... you're in luck! I have a $15 gift card just waiting to be dropped in the mail!

With all the holiday parties, cookie swaps, and home baked goodies delivered to your doorstep in the upcoming weeks I want to know your tips/suggestions for how your family stays healthy throughout the holidays with all the sweet temptations! Just leave me one tip or suggestion along with the name of your favorite Subway sandwich and you'll be entered to win a $15 Subway giftcard!

One comment per person please!

Want an extra entry?
Blog or twitter about this post/contest with a link and come back and leave a second comment!

You have until Saturday(December 6) at midnight! I will pick a winner using random.org and post the winner on Sunday (December 7).

We have a several ways that we maintain healthy habits during holidays:
1. cooking extra at meals to freeze so we have extra home cooked meals on hand,
2. planning out the exercise schedule ahead to fit in with the holiday events &
3. having the philosophy that desserts and goodies are special treats, not must haves, so we keep them to a minimum (trying for 1 a day or less.) Plus you don't have to eat the entire thing to enjoy it-sometimes just a bit will satisfy.
FAV SUBWAY SANDWICH-Veggie Delight loaded w/ veggies on whole wheat(no oil or mayo)

I always have healthy alternatives. There may be a table full of calories and a dessert area full of sugar but at least there is another option to balance out the bad stuff. Veggie trays, fresh fruit, etc. If we eat the good stuff too seems like we keep the bad stuff to a minimium.

MaryCatherine said...

Sadly I am allergic to gluten which means most sweet treats are out. Over the years my family has started to cut down on the number of sweet treats they bake, people seem not to want to eat them in front of me: ) so really this time of year, it helps everyone!

Anonymous said...

I say the way to be more healthy is to eat fresh grown fruits and vegetables. My favorite sub is roast beef. Thanks,Samantha

I try to keep very little sweets in my home. Out of sight, out of mind. Replacing sweets with more healthy alternatives like fresh fruits and veggies is also a great way to cut back on bad eating during the holiday.

I enjoy a turkey sub with everything at Subway.

Thanks for the great giveaway!

To stay more healthy during the holiday season we keep the sweets to a minimum. I don't bake tons of items to give as gifts. Instead I use my free, very useful "centsible sawyer" finds to give to neighbors in cute little packages. I would say the turkey sub is a favorite in our house.

Whenever we visit someone else's home we are sure to bring along something healthy and yummy to balance out all the treats at the table.

My husband and I are getting up earlier to spend more time working out to offset some of our "holiday eating!!" Outside of the days spent with family eating lots of food, I try to pack healthy lunches with veggies and fruit and anything low fat or fat free, but still restricting calories! We don't limit ourselves completely or we'd slip up and binge, one little treat a day or low fat hot chocolate or herbal teas with honey really help!

Both of us enjoy a Subway club sandwich or roast beef with fat free honey mustard. We haven't eaten there much lately since it's cheaper to make a sandwich at home, but we do try to pick Subway when we do have to eat "fast food."

Anonymous said...

Out of sight, out of mind! I only have sweets and treats out when we have guests. I allow my kids to help themselves without restriction, and they are usually so distracted having fun that they don't over indulge. I have found that telling them they can't have something only makes them want it more.

Although we are busy with the holiday season, we still try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals at home!

I LOVE Subway! My favorite is the turkey & swiss, w/ all the toppings! With 4 kids, I try really hard to have more fruits and veggies around to snack on, esp. at parties, we bring the veggie tray!

We do partake of yummies during the holiday season, but only at parties or gatherings, so the rest of our meals are normal.

Carissa said...

We try to eat healthy by making hoe cooked meals at home and resisting the temptation to eat out.

I love the turkey subs!

Mrs. Bargain Hunting Wife said...

At parties I always try and chew gum, since I already have something in my mouth, sneaking a couple bites is more hassle than it is worth (most of the time!).

We have very few sweets in the house. This helps with any temptation.

With the hectic schedules of December, it is so easy to grab a cuppa coffee and head out the door without breakfast. I always take a few extra moments to eat a warm breakfast. Whether hot cereal or even warmed up leftovers, it helps keep me warm, and helps prevent those dreaded mid morning hunger pangs while out shopping which inevitably leads to grabbing some "bad" food while I am out. Saves me a few extra bucks too, when I don't buy a hot pretzel, nachos, or other Mall Food!

LOVE Subway Tuna Subs! I get the footlong sliced in half, get veggies and cheese on 1 half, and just cheese on the 2nd. I wrap the second half up and microwave at home later for a piping hot tuna melt!

Dawn said...

I prepare meals ahead of time and we eat before we go to parties. I love the Chicken Salad Sandwich from Subway.

Anonymous said...

Calculate the calories and fat grams and put it on a index card on top of the goodies. That way, you can still enjoy one (possibly two) and keep your diet in check.

I love the Subway club! Yum-o

Anonymous said...

I continue my exercise routine! However, if you are not used to doing lots of cardio, don't start around the holidays—that will just increase your hunger. Just do what you normally do and drink lots of water. The more water you drink the more full you will feel!

Eliza said...

I try to keep as much of the junk food and sweets out of our home since everywhere you go people offer you some.

My favorite subway sandwich is the Italian BMT or the Veggie (mmm...you're making a very pregnant woman hungry!)

I try to remember to drink a bottle of water before holiday get-togethers...so I'll be full on water!

My favorite Subway sandwich is probably the most unhealthy - The Classic Italian!

cemoody379 said...

I always eat before I attend festivities so I will not be tempted to overeat on sweets. Generally, by the time I get to the party, my stomach has registered that I am no longer starving. On the other hand, since it takes some time for your stomach to realize it is full, I spend the first half of the party hanging out at the veggie tray!

I love ham and turkey subs-- no cheese, no mayo, no onions!

Rachel said...

Hi - to be honest, we overeat around the holidays and don't make special attempts to avoid it.

I like the ham and chees sandwich on asiago bread.

Our rule is "one item" whether it is Halloween, Christmas, Easter ect. You my choose a sweet but it is "one item per day". Even our littles ask for "an item". (grant it, yes, if we are away at a party we may sway a touch... but I try to run a pretty tight ship so it better be a pretty good plea for another item!)
Happy day.

Last week (and I hope to be repeated at Christmas), I tried to get what I wanted on my plate but NOT go back for seconds. I enjoyed every scrumptious bite of my food, but I was not overstuffed at the end of the meal. Subway...teriyaki chicken is great!

Southerner said...

I like to freeze meals during what I know will be a busy month. I fail when I shop all day or work on a craft and don't have more energy for cooking- I will grab whatever everytime. I also take along some protein when I shop- nuts, peanut butter crackers, a protein bar, because when Mama goes hungry she sure gets grumpy. All the walking when shopping is great to fit in a little exercise.

At parties, I allow myself three items. Instead of eating everything I choose three that I really want. How many times have you eaten something that doesn't really taste "great" or fill that craving.

My favorite subway sandwich is a turkey club or the teriyaki chicken.

This just so happens to not be one of our strong points. Instead, I try to be that person that delivers all the goodies to everyone else. :) We really enjoy baking, and coming up with new sweets, so we end up giving the majority of it away, as to avoid the temptation to eat it! If someone does give us something, we try to share the majority of it right away. If it's not in the house, we're less likely to grab it. We have plenty of family to give things to, so it works out pretty good.

We love southern foods, so the best "healthy help" we can get is that we love fruits and veggies! I always try to have at least 2 veggies with every meal, and we always have a ton of fruit around! I have found that convenience is a necessary in my house, so when I get produce, I immmediately wash and cut it up and store it in the fridge for easy access, and it seems to work pretty well so far!
Subway... I have to say that my husband is the biggest sandwich freak I have ever known, so we love that place! I don't have a favorite, but we love how you can go in and get fresh bread, and all the "stuffing" you can imagine! -Would love to win!

To help balance all the goodies at this time of the year, I get everyone out to shovel the snow. It teaches the kids how to give of themselves and also burns extra calories and since they think its fun, its an easy time.

I don't do any baking at Christmas. Everybody and their sister bakes stuff, and I'm sure I'll be the recipient of some of it. If I bake, then I have twice the amount of sweets around to tempt me. I find other gifts to give to friends and loved ones too, besides baking sweets for them. When I make 'em, I eat 'em!

I guess one good thing about having a really small family is that we don't get tons of temptations. I've never had any one bring me cookies/sweets to my door, lol. I guess my tip would be, keep up the exercising. Don't lose focus during the busy time of year. Even if you can spend 10 - 15 minutes doing some kind of workout, that will help.

My favorite subway sandwich is their ham with lettuce & dressing. I don't like anything else on my subs :)

Rule for desert after dinner:

Sweets are only allowed after 2 veggies are finished.

Rule for sweet snacks:

You must take a 20 min walk afterwards, or if the weather's too bad, then you have to do a chore that involves moderate exercise (cleaning bedroom, garage, washing floors, vacuuming). If you refuse to do the exercise afterwards, you'll have to do double exercise for sweets the next time.

We get Subway all the time! We don't bake much and try to leave healthy snacks out so we don't graze on holiday dinner.

I cook large batches of healthy, and delicious food, and then vacuum seal portion sizes and pop them into the freezer. Instead of defrosting an entire casserole or other dish (and feeling the need for may family to polish off the entire meal), we can each have a portion. This is also great for eating in a hurry or for bringing lunch to work.

My favorite Subway sandwich is the Sweet Onion and Chicken Teriyaki. Yum!

We focus on eating healthy meals. Lots of salads, baked fish and brown rice. We also keep healthy snacks like yogurt, nuts & dried fruits and fresh fruits on hand.

My kids love to cook and I love to make their cooking experience healthy. One of their favorite desserts is fruit jello, which I love for them to eat, sugar free and fruit, pretty ideal.

We eat at Subway fairly often, once a month, maybe. No question that the meatball sub is my favorite.

During the holidays, we eat in moderation. We pick one dessert over all of them being offered. I'm a regular subway customer (at least twice per week). My favorite is the chicken teriyaki.

Because I am overweight and I do attempt to not keep a lot of sweets in the house (since I will EAT THEM ALL), if we are given a box of chocolates, handmade sweets, etc, I try and take them with me to a party or church or other social function where they can be enjoyed. That way I can have a tasty treat at the function/event, but not the WHOLE BOX. :)

I am an odd one because most sweets don't really tempt me. But hide the Chex Mix because I will eat it all! lol. I usually try to keep fruit, cheese, and that sort of thing on hand for my 3 year old. Luckily he doesn't care for fancy pies either but he will eat candy all day if I let him. SO out of site out of mind.

I like the roast beef sandwich with cheese...toasted of course. We all love SUBWAY even my 3 year old.

I always make sure that they are not diabetic, first. I also let them know that we were not the makers but wanted to share our "wealth". It lets us enjoy and other enjoy but not over do it.

the holidays are rough and full of treats and snacks but we try to have healthy snacks like pretzels and popcorn- and lots of different seasonings for the popcorn- like cinnamon/splenda mix - bacon salt- ok its salt but cuts the craving down for bacon. I am also doing a housecleaning of food- ok we are doing well- lots of stews, soups and mixes, noone is hungry and when someone is in a hurry I can say I already have soup and potroast or something ready so they do not grab junk- the crockpot is constantly on, and there are 4 crockpots in our house- but in reality we use them all and have hot fresh snacks- or soups ready at any type (if they are not in the crockpot- easy to zap a bowl in the microwave)mrs.mommyyatgmaildotcom

In our area of the world (South Texas) this time of year is when a lot of good fruit becomes available. Big juicy Texas Grapefruit, Navel Oranges, sweet Apples. So I make it a point to have a bowl of fruit out after school, in between meals for us to munch on. Cuts down on the desire for the sugary stuff.

Our families favorite Subway Sandwich is the Meatball Marinara!

Of course being an Italian family, our holidays are big and the food is the main course! Since it is so very hard to break with tradition, I try to make small changes, like baking with Splenda and lower fat butters, using the turkey carcass, after cutting away the meat to make stock, which half I froze and the other half made into turkey soup. I also continue to bake, because that is the best hostess gift since we do so much visiting, so it saves me from buying something else, plus gets the cookies out of the house!

I asked my boyfriend this question and he said, "just tell them we say heck with it, eat everything and then work out in January." haha. Well, that is semi-true, we are terrible at saying no... but I do try to do a little more than that, too. When we make Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, I try using healthier ingredients to at least keep some of the calories and fat down, like whole wheat bread crumbs for stuffing and soy milk for potatoes.

My boyfriend loves the meatball sub, and I like the vegetarian. We both love Subway and would love to win this! Thanks for the opportunity!
