I'm Baaaack!!!

What a whirlwind!

We had a blast though. For those of you just "tuning" in, my family just got back from Niagara Falls. We went on a road trip so before we visited the falls we were able to stop off and visit my husband's family in Kentucky and we spent the day with them in Ohio visiting many of the Amish communities. We ate a DELICIOUS dinner at Der Dutchman restaurant (an Amish home-cooked meal). We saw the falls from the Canada side and went for a ride on the Maid of the Mist boat. That was a lot of fun! We also spent a day in Niagara on the Lake, a quaint little town and saw the locks work on the Eerie Canal. One day we drove up to Toronto and saw Casa Loma castle.

As my family made their way back home I stopped off and caught a plane in Columbus, Ohio so that I could meet the other Walmart eleven moms. Pictured above are the other "coupon bloggers" - Erin from Coupon Cravings, ME!, Alyssa from Keeping the Kingdom First, and Tara from Deal Seeking Mom. We had a blast! I really learned quite a bit about Walmart as a company. I thought I already knew quite a lot, growing up in the southeast and shopping at Walmart my whole life. But, I learned a ton of new information that I had no idea about. I was most impressed with the hospitality of all of the people we met. That means a lot to me being a southern girl! Surprisingly, everyone was quite laid back and just your average joe (although I am sure their paychecks have several more digits than mine!).

Of course, I also got to see Harrison Ford at the Walmart Saturday meeting and I even got Paula Deen's autograph and picture! What fun!

What I came away with was, regardless of your last visit to Walmart with that grumpy cashier, the CEOs of Walmart really did have a lot of heart for their company and the customer. They genuinely do care about the customer and what the customer wants. You can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do. And, you'll be glad to hear that they want to hear your voice and what YOU want and hopefully I can help to be your mouthpiece. They are anxious to hear what you like and dislike and to implement the changes that we want. I look forward to more opportunities with them and to help you have a better shopping experience there.

Hey! You girls had fun! I have to laugh -- you didn't make it to Oprah like our first plan, but you and Alyssa have certainly gotten a crazy blogging ride! Congrats!

Hey, I think you might have been up the road from me...did you go to the Der Dutchman in Waynesville, OH or another one? If you did stop through Waynesville, you were awfully close to me and Andrea...and BBJ!

Take care and have fun with the 11 Moms. Mucho congrats to ALL of you on your hard work!

Glad to hear that you had fun!

I think that Wal-mart should probably spend more time making sure that they hire Store managers that can get the job done though. It took several emails to Corporate (after several discussions with local managers) for them to get the harness seat belts fixed on the "family" carts at our local store. My small daughter (3 yo) almost busted her head on the handle of the cart when one broke on her. It was almost a year later before they got the carts fixed (all but 1 was broke). The same incompetent managers are still at that store today. It is one of the last places I shop anymore.

I realize that you have no control over any of this...so I am not getting down on you...but no one really cared about our children's safety on any level.

OKAY here's what I hate about Walmart: The bathrooms. They are stupid. They have these shallow sinks (that resemble a trough) and "automatic" (yeah, right) water spouts that never work! And if they do work your hand washing is for naught as your hands graze the bottom of the "trough" as you try to rinse-YUK. And in these places there are never stepping stools for little ones. I have had 5 children in 2.5 years and trying to LIFT them ALL up to wash hands (when they were ages 4.5,3,3,2&2) was an Olympic Sport! What I like about Walmart: most of the employees are friendly. Thanks for listening. I feel so much better and its cheaper than therapy!
