(This deal is good until tomorrow - 3/1/08).

Also, McDonald's had free breakfast today - did anyone go? I heard about it at MoneySavingMom and then I saw it on a commercial on TV and this morning on the radio!! They are really getting the info out there!

Educational Websites for Kids

As some of you know, I have been a second grade teacher for 5 years. I LOVE teaching! I love to make learning fun and to integrate the subjects to make learning more meaningful. I have also had the privilege of working in a school that has all types of technology right at my fingertips. Over those years I have accumulated LOTS of educational websites that I use throughout the year. Some of them I use over and over and others are for specific subjects and lessons. I use to scratch them down on paper and stick them in a folder with a little blurb about why I liked it so I could remember later. Then I started a del.icio.us bookmarking account. I built this site for teachers of all grade levels (K-12) and gave several people access to add more links while I worked with Berry College and their Charter Fellows group. Of course the majority of my sites are for K-5 as that is what I am constantly searching for and finding. I know that a lot of the readers have children at home who might like to visit these sites. Lots of them are interactive and have educational games. Others of you home school so this is yet another resource you could have at your fingertips.
My website is here. Enjoy!!

What's For Dinner Wednesday

Same as last week, I am going to post one of my favorite quick dinners in hopes that some of you will either link your favorite recipes or type one up under the comments tab (if you don't have a blog).

Alfredo Pizza
To make alfredo sauce:
1 pint of heavy cream
1 cup parmesan cheese
1 stick of butter

Melt the butter in a sauce pan then add heavy cream and cheese. Heat thoroughly making sure not to boil (it'll seperate the cream) but just to melt the cheese.

The pizza:
1 box frozen spinach (thawed and squeeze out as much liquid as you possibly can)
1 rotesserie chicken from the grocery store deli- white meat boned (save the rest for another meal) (you could boil your own chicken breast and shred - this is just a "quick trick"
1 can of Pillsbury pizza dough (from the refrigerated section)

Follow the directions for the dough on the can (pre-bake the dough as directed).
Spread the sauce, chicken and spinach over the pizza dough. Last, cover with mozzerella and bake as directed on dough label.

This is SOOO good and literally the easiest thing you can make! My husband DEVOURED it!! So much better than ANY take out.

NOTE: You could use homemade pizza dough but I like this kind and it is FAST - so great for a meal I need to whip together after work.

The military commissaries overseas accept manufacturer's cents-off coupons for up to six months past their printed expiration dates. What a treasure it is to know that our expired coupons can mean a real difference to the families who have dedicated and sacrificed a part of their lives for the sake of our country."

Read here to see the whole article and get the details so you can send your expired or unused coupons to our military men and women.

Every Penny Counts

How many of you have seen a penny on the ground and just walked on by? I know I am guilty! If it is silver I would stop... but a penny...not every time. Well, I just read an article about the worth of a penny and paying down debt. This really hit home to me because sometimes I feel overwhelmed with all the bills that are coming in, and I wonder if I will ever be debt-free.

The article basically showed how a penny really makes a difference in paying down your debt. I knew that you should pay as much as you can towards your debt because you'll pay it off faster (duh!). But what surprised me was how much a PENNY could make a difference!

Here is the example he gave:
The example loan is $10,000 at 18% and you're making monthly payments of $150.

Question: How long does it take to repay this loan?

Answer: You can never repay that loan by making payments of
$150 per month. No matter how many payments you make, you will always owe $10,000. Why? The amount of monthly interest is exactly equal to how much you're paying. That monthly interest fee is $150 ($10,000 x 0.18/12). You'll never owe any more than $10,000, but you'll never be able to pay off the loan.

Next question: What happens if you add just one penny to that payment? Just one cent? That's right, now the payment becomes a big $150.01. Now how long will it take to pay back that loan?

Answer: It takes 53 years, 10 months! Okay, that's a lifetime
for some people, or at least half a lifetime. Now, because of
that one penny, instead of paying $150 for eternity, the loan
is eventually paid off.

Okay, so you don't want to be in debt for almost 54 years.
What can you do? You guessed it. Add another penny. So here's
the next question:

Question: How much do you save by making payments of $150.02?

Answer: It now takes exactly 50 years to pay back the loan!
That extra penny knocked almost 4 years off the payback time
of the loan. How much money did that extra penny save? Let's
see. The out-of-pocket cost of the first loan is $150.01 for
53 years, 10 months. That comes to a total repayment of
$96,884.72 (the last payment is less than $150.01).

WOW!! What a difference a PENNY can make... guess I'll stop and pick up those pennies... how 'bout you?

Read the whole article at the Dollar Stretcher. The article is titled, "Every Penny Counts," by Scott Bilker.

CVS Celebrity

This week I left after school to pick up some of my CVS deals. I was with my mom (we car pool since we both drive 45 minutes+ to work). I was in the make-up aisle when I heard a cry from the main aisle. It was one of my "most favorite" students. Truly, he is a handful but a HOOT! he screamed, "Mrs. Sawyer... I can't believe you are at CVS! I can't believe I am seeing you at CVS after I saw you at school!!!" He continued to shout breathlessly with shock, "I just can't believe it. I can't believe we were at school together just a minute ago and then we came here ... again... together!" I told him, "Yeah, every now and then they let me out of the school to do other things!" :) His mom had a good laugh at his amazement and tried to coax him out of the store telling him to leave Mrs. Sawyer alone so she could shop. He just couldn't leave though! He was so thrilled he came over to hug me and to "reminisce" the good 'ole moments (not days) we had that day at school. He was absolutely hilarious! And, by the end of the loud visit every one in the store knew I was "Mrs. Sawyer" and it was truly nothing short of amazing that I was at CVS after school.

Isn't funny how young children think their teacher live at school?!

Money Saving MOVIES

I am hearing a lot lately about Redbox. What is Redbox? Redbox is the "red box" that can be found in several stores and places. It looks like a vending machine and you can rent movies from it. For those who live around me there is one in the Summerville Wal-Mart lobby.

You can rent movies for $1 a night and what I just found out is that they are giving out codes for FREE rentals all the time!

If you want to rent more than one movie for free, bring more than one credit/debit card. You can use the same promotional code, you just will need different accounts to charge to. The charge will be zero as long as you return your movie on time for the next day.

When entering in your free movie code, you need to enter it FIRST before picking the movie. On the very first screen, click the, "Rent with Promo." Enter in the above code and then make your selection- the amount should then total zero.

Okay so on to the FREE codes:
You can get the current codes at MomAdvice.com at her blog the Motherload.

You can also sign up to get alerts and free codes of your own here.

Not sure if there is a Redbox near you? Click here to find out!

This week's free code: President (offer expires 2/25).

FREE Ice Cream at Bruster's!

On March the 1st (a week from Saturday) Bruster's is giving away FREE ICE CREAM to anyone wearing pajamas!!! SAY WHAT?! You heard me right! FREE ICE CREAM!!! HOLLLA!!!

I checked to verify with the locations around here and they both said YES! So, if you live around Rome, GA or Chattanooga, TN you can get free ice cream! They are doing it all day and they are open until 10 p.m. All you have to do is show up in your PJ's and you will receive one scoop on a waffle cone! (No, you don't have to wear your robe and house shoes - PJ pants will qualify! :) )

The Bruster's in Rome, GA is at 1911 Shorter Ave, SW and the Bruster's in Chattanooga, TN is at 1406 Jenkins Rd.

What's For Dinner Wednesday

I am going to attempt to start a new Meme called, "What's For Dinner Wednesday." I will post a new recipe each Wednesday. The idea is that you guys will also post your favorite recipe so we can learn new ways to surprise our taste buds! I hope you will post a favorite recipe on your blog and link it here or leave one in the comment section if you don't have a blog!

So here's mine (actually this is my mom's recipe but one of my favorite QUICK dinners!)

Chicken Croquettes

1 can white meat chicken
1 well beaten egg
a couple of saltine crackers (4-5 should do)
1 can cream of chicken soup
1/2 can of milk (use the soup can after you pour it in a pan).
vegetable oil for frying

Mix the first three ingredients in a bowl. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet. Spoon out small amounts of the chicken mixture and pat into a patty (similar to a salmon or tuna patty). Place in the skillet of hot oil. Fry for a few minutes on one side then flip. Fry for a few minutes on the other side.

While these are cooking, mix the can of soup and 1/2 can of milk in a saucepan. Heat this up to make a gravy for the croquettes.

This is SOOO yummy and is done in like 15-20 minutes (prep to table!). I always serve mine with green beans and carrots and some kind of fast cooking rice, etc. It is also yummy left over for lunch the next day. :)

Great Baby Deals at KMART!

KMart: Good Deals for This Week - From Melonie:

There are some deals going that are of interest -
1) Luvs diapers: the Mega packs are on sale 2/$10, as well as the Luvs (231-count) wipes refills. If a person doesn't have a Target near them for the $5 off 3 packs coupon, this is a better deal at $5 per pack. EDIT: Only the wipe refills are on sale 2/$10 according to the people commenting over at Money Saving Mom.

2) Johnson's and Aveeno baby care items (various products, excluding Aveeno diaper rash care) are on sale, 3/$10 - handy if they have some of the recent Aveeno coupons from inserts. Aveeno also offers coupons online at various places.

3) Gerber 2nd Foods 2-packs are on sale 10/$10, with 10% off other Gerber foods (those on the Gerber mailing list may have coupons on these)

*Some other deals I noticed*

1) Pampers Big Packs are $20 (these packs have around 90-100+ diapers in them)

2) Similac Advance, Enfamil LIPIL, Enfamil Gentlease LIPIL, and Isomil Advance (Enfamil Gentlease is 24 oz, all others 25.7 oz) are on sale for $23.99 (Not sure if this is good or not?)

These are all from the 2/17 sale flyer for Kmart, good thru 2/23.

Walgreen's Shop-a-palooza!

Today I stopped at a different Walgreen's (again) and got some of the stuff the other one was out of. I got all of this loot for $8.28 OOP! My total before coupons 56.73!!! So, my saving for today were $40.45 - can you believe it??? (Of course I would NEVER have paid 50+ dollars for this stuff, but still 8 bucks for all this stuff was awesome!

I got: 4 Full Throttle Energy drinks, 3 Jane mascaras, 4 packs of Big Red gum, 3 cans of skintimate shave gel, 1 bag of sugar, 2 Lysol toilet bowl cleaners, and a tube of tinted lip gloss (also Jane).

I used LOTS of coupons, including several you can pick up AT THE STORE! I used a coupon for the gum and a coupon for the mascara from the Walgreen's Easy Saver Booklet. I used a coupon for the shave gel and the sugar from the weekly Walgreen's ad. I used 2 coupons for the Full Throttle that were hang tangs in the beverage center at Walgreen's (found these about a week ago).

I printed 4 Jane coupons for $2/1 (get it here).

The other coupons I used (not found in the store) were from this week's newspaper (2 coupons for $0.75 for the Lysol). I also used 2 BOGO coupons on the gum that I got from the newspaper a couple weeks ago.

Lastly, I earned a $3 register reward on the Sunsilk products yesterday and a $2 RR for the chapstick yesterday - so I used them today to pay $5 off my total.

So YOU can do it too!

Okay, So Your New ...

Okay, so your new. Maybe you are thinking about trying some of these deals out with CVS and Walgreen's. But your thinking, "What does all this jibber jabber mean ... with the ECB's and the Register Rewards?" If you are thinking about getting started you should take a minute to read MoneySavingMom's blog article called CVS 101. Also, the article called Making CVS Work for You and Walgreen's 101 have been helpful to me to get me off to a running start. Once you have done that you can come up with some of your own deals too! BUT, don't forget to check here and some of the other blogs linked here to see what other people have cooked up!

Also, if your new, check the bottom of my page to see what some of the abbreviations used here mean (these are the same abbreviations used in other coupon and money saving blogs).

Happy (and Frugal) Shopping! :)

Today I went to CVS and got this make-up for $1.84 out of pocket (OOP). Yippee!! Plus I got a $10 ECB to spend next time.

AND that very next time was sooner than later. :)

I got all of this in my second transaction. I paid $13.54 and got back $15 ECB's!!!! Not bad! (oh yeah, an 8 pack of AA Energizer batteries is missing from the photo!)

**Side note: I'll never need to buy liquid dish soap (I now have 6 at home) or tampons again! HeHeHe!!

Next stop... Walgreen's!
I was a little frustrated because my register reward for $6 for the Gillette Fusion didn't print. :(
But, I did get all of this for $6.74 OOP. I also earned $5 in register rewards for the chapstick and the Sunsilk products. Not too bad.

The other bummer was that they were also out of the sugar they had on sale, the Tide that was on sale, and the Lysol toilet bowl cleaner. SOOO, I plan to stop at the other Walgreen's tomorrow and pick some of these items up with my $5 RR.

This is what I got at Walgreen's today.

Great Buys at Target

I plan to go to Target next Saturday if DJ gets the day off. I have been jonesin' to go to Target for some time. The closest one to me is Chattanooga and it is not a Super Target. These deals were posted at Money Saving Mom as well as some other deals too. I am not sure if they will be available at our Target but I plan to check it out!

Supposedly you can "stack" coupons at Target - meaning you can use a manufacturer's coupon and a Target store coupon on the same product. Other stores do this too (like Walgreen's).

Duncan Hines frozen brownies are reportedly $2.99
Use the $1/1 coupon from the recent newspaper insert
AND stack with Target's $1/1 coupon (get it here)

Hostess 100 calorie snacks are on sale for $2.00

Use the $0.75/1 coupon (here) - can be printed 3 times.
Use with $0.75/1 Target coupon (here)

Some of the O-Cello sponges are $1.99 pack
BUY 2 and Use the $1/2 manufacturer coupon from here
AND stack with 2 of the $1/1 Target coupons (print 2) (here)

Joint Juice is on sale for $1
Use the $1/1 coupon from newspaper insert or get it here

Diapers and Baby Formula

This one is just for you Mel! :)

I have been searching for coupons on diapers and formula for a friend and I ran across this site. Thought it might be helpful to some of my friends with little ones! :)

This site has links to Enfamil, Similac, Nestle, and Walmart's sites that have programs you can sign up for to receive coupons and samples free through the mail.

This site has links to to Pampers, Luvs, and Huggies websites as well as other ideas for scoring great diaper coupons.

Hope this helps! And for now, I'll be sending my coupons along to you as well, Mel! ;)

* NEW *
I just found out that Walgreen's has some great links to coupons on Huggies ($1/1 and $2/1). They are manufacturer's coupons so they are good at any store. Go HERE to print your own. They are on page 1 and 2. The first one says you have to answer two questions. It is simple! Then it prints a coupon for you. My questions were "what kind do you most often buy" and "how old is your baby?" I scored two coupons for you Mel! :)

Food Lion Pays ME to Shop!!

Today I went to Food Lion with the trustee coupons I printed yesterday (see yesterday's blog about Food Lion). The first time through the line I only purchased the blueberry waffles shown here. The cost was... wait for it... $0 -- actually they PAID me!!! She said, "hang on a minute ma'am I actually owe YOU money." That's right, she PAID ME 38 cents!!!

Next I went in and took along a second coupon for the waffles and a coupon for the Life water shown above. The coupon for the Life water was one I found for 50 cents off of 1 in the cooler section at CVS, it was a hang tag (I took several). They might even still have some, check it out next time you are in. Food Lion had the Life water for $1. With the 50 cent off coupon and the 38 cent overage from waffles my second total came to 20 cents! That means today's total came to an overage of 18 cents! That's right I MADE MONEY!!
Yeah - today is a good day!

Next time I go I am getting one more box of waffles and that box of Honey Bunches of Oats Chocolate Clusters I posted about yesterday. With the $2/1 coupon here you can get both the waffles and the cereal for about 20 cents!

Happy Valentine's Day to my favorite person in the whole world! My husband DJ is the most awesome husband! He is more than I could ever have dreamed up! It is amazing really how God knows just what we need when he puts us together. DJ is truly my "other half." We make a great team! He is such a big help around the house and he is sweet to put my needs/wants before his. He is a wonderful provider. He's a real nut (everyone who knows him would probably describe him this way) but he has a big heart and would do anything for anyone!

I hope everyone else had some quality time with their significant other - if not today make some time for one another soon. It is important to let our significant others know just how loved they are - don't wait for a national holiday! :)

Free Samples

Go check out the Walmart site for FREE SAMPLES. They add new ones all the time! Right now you can sign up for free samples of Jergen's Natural Glow lotion, Dove shampoo, Poise pads, AquaFresh toothpaste, and Selsun Blue shampoo. Hey, free is free! :)

Chocolate Cereal - YUM!

What could make chocolate cereal better? Coupons for free or cheap chocolate cereal - of course!!

Go here to print your coupon for Honey Bunches of Oats with Real Chocolate Clusters. (Look for the button in the lower right hand corner). The coupon is for $2/1 and so you can use it in conjunction with a sale and get the cereal cheap or for FREE (my favorite!). I will let you know if I hear of any good sales where we can get this at rock bottom prices!

I got this information from the Be Centsable Website; you might be interested in some more of her coupon links and info!

Go here to print coupons for Food Lion to get free stuff!!

Angie at Thrifty Florida Mama has the info.

She says that Eggos are one sale for $2.00 and with the coupons you get $2/1 Eggos!

She has some other links for Free Kleenex too - but I couldn't get them to work. Let me know if you have any luck and let me know what you did!

Thanks!

Free Flat Earth Chips!

Go here to get a coupon for a free bag of Flat Earth chips. Then, next time you're in Walmart pick yourself up a *FREE* bag! There are several flavors to choose from. I got mine today at the LaFayette Walmart and as you can see they didn't even make it all the way home before I had to try 'em out! AND, they are really good - like a baked chip from Lay's!

FREE Organix Shampoo or Conditioner

Get your very own Organix shampoo or conditioner for FREE! Right now at Walmart all of their Organix shampoo and conditioner have rebate tags on them (like these). The rebate is good until JULY! So get them as long as they last! Send the rebate off and get the product FREE!! (One rebate per household). I got these at the LaFayette Walmart. There are several different types of shampoos and conditioners to choose from.

Worship - So Awesome!

We had worship tonight at the Percolator (my families coffee shop). It was just a small group (people whom I am related to and those who I consider my "extended" family). It was so awesome though, just being in the presence of the Lord. You could really feel the joy of the Lord. I always have a renewed strength afterwards.

Most importantly what I gleaned from worship was that I really need to find more time to just BE with the Lord (as in prayer, reading and studying my Bible, and just listening and chatting with Yeshua). With work, the driving time to and fro (we drive about 45 minutes each way), cooking, cleaning, making time for my husband, and other necessities of life I feel like a puddle of mush by about 8:00 pm. I can think of a few ways I can make this time with God that is of utmost importance happen - but I am wondering, how do you find time, and when do you make time for God? Your comments are wanted and needed!

Shopping Blues

Okay, so I am a newbie at CVS shopping but I think I am getting the hang of it! I have also gotten my mom involved and I think she is even more obsessed than I am! So now that we are totally bonkers over CVS there is *NOTHING* that is a great buy this week! Okay, so there are a few things but not really anything I need. (Toothpaste is taking over my bathroom cabinet!)

I am a little down and out. But I was thinking, maybe this is a blessing in disguise, seeing how I have newly restocked my pantry (it is more full than it has ever been!), there is absolutely no room in my freezer, and I am not in need of any personal care at this moment. This week I am living frugally just by living off my pantry. So the blessing is that I can save my money (apply it to my debt) by not setting foot in a store. Truth be told I could probably use what is in my pantry/freezer and not go grocery shopping for the entire months of February and March!

Lord of the "Ring"

This is my fifth year teaching in a second grade class and let me tell you there is never a dull moment! My friends and family are always asking me to "tell another funny story about your kids." One of my favorites is of a student I had my first year.

We were sitting in a circle and I was getting ready to read a favorite picture book to the class. I was waiting on everyone to settle in and there was a group of students talking about the last "Lord of the Ring" movies coming out in the theater. They were very excited and talking about how their parents were going to let them see it, or were not going to let them see it, or that their parents were previewing it and then they would decide if they could see it.

That's when this particular student piped up over all of the other voices and said, "My mom calls my dad the Lord of the Ring." He giggled and realized no one else was laughing. That's when he said, "You know, because my dad takes a long time in the bathroom and when you sit on the toilet for a long time you get a ring around your butt."

Oh, if parents only knew!!
